I recently decided to install the XML site map generat0r by Arne Brachold. The installation went fairly well, however, I have received error when attempting to verify the site map in Google Web Master Tools. Although the error was shown to be from a exclusion in the Robots.txt file, there should not have be an error. The robots.txt file was revamped and tested in the Google yet their were numerous attempts before I realized that in this instance, I had to specifically create a rule for Googlebot in the robots.txt file…

I find this rather strange. I typically write something along the lines of …

Disallow:/foo/
Disallow:/bar/

I haven’t had any problems with sitemaps using the previous method and it wasn’t until finding the article on Webmaster Help Center

This site is based on a theme called The Cutline 3 column split … I think that the layout is very nice. Care to share? There are however lot’s of things I think I am going to hack up on it just because I like to do things my way … For instance, in the header.php include, there are 5 rotating images as the header … I think the concept is fairly cool. However, I am going to add some different images to that just cause’ I can. And then, there is the issue with the Titles of the links being very generic … being a template I would expect that, but that has got to change as well. As for the installation. Hmmm … I have to scratch my head on that one … when creating a template based blog, why would someone add links to pages on the site that default from the install to a 404 page? Admittedly, the design of this template was created as a high performing blog for search engine optimization rankings … I fail to see how a 404 page can be a good thing to start off with. Other than that, I really like the layout and style a lot. Very clean and simple. Let’s see how well I can modify this design to really rank well in the search engines …
