Interesting Search Results for Florida SEO

As a South Florida SEO blog, we are always researching relevant key phrases for our industry. These key phrases for most businesses are generally kept close and private (if possible) and our structure is quite the same. That being said, it is not too difficult to figure out some key words and phrases for just about any domain based on the URL and the content of the site. For instance, since our domain name is www.SEOFortlauderdale.com, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that we are probably targeting terms associated with SEO and Ft. Lauderdale. Also, seeing as how Fort Lauderdale is located in South Florida, there are a host of other terms which we can target for local search alone.

Recently while researching the phrase "Florida SEO", I noted some of the top ranking sites. It is interesting to note that many of the sites focused on SEO seem to have no focus on design or usability whatsoever. I understand that Search Engine Optimization is all about rankings (which are controlled by algorithms & robots and not humans) but it is surprising that as whole, many of the players in the industry have no regard for design, usability or even grammar for that matter.

My research today found that the #1 site in particular was using a template (which isn't the worst thing) but had not even run their copy through a spell/grammar check. It is fairly obvious that this was written by either someone non-native English speaking or someone who clearly lacks attention to detail or communications experience. I doubt it is attention to detail because they do rank well.

Another site in the top 10 was a complete list of Florida SEO companies. This top ranking Google page, did not have a single listing in their directory. It was completely blank. There was a space to buy a listing and a form so you can submit your $$$, but no listings. Really Google? I was hoping you were better than that. Hopefully they will have an update soon.

There were a few redeeming sites in the line up. Several that were thoughtfully designed and well written, so it wasn't all bad, but I was surprised to see some of the absolute garbage that surfaces to the top when searching for Florida SEO.

A well designed landing page and website is critical. Its great to have the number 1 position in the SERPs, it will definitely bring you traffic. But what are you going to do with that traffic (human) actually gets there?
